So today i woke up to my phone ringing. It was my boss. he wanted to know if i would come in to work a bit early. I'm supposed to work at 4 so i think 2:30 or 3 is a bit early right. so... ya, ok! 10!?! that's not a bit early! that's 6 hours early! sometimes i feel like i kinda' get pushed around. I've been working for them for over 5 years now and i've called in sick once. i even came to work straight from the hospital after i broke my shoulder in a rugby game and i was only 15 minutes late for my shift. over the past 5 years every time they need someone to come in to help out or cover for someone who is sick i'm the first one they call. Every time they call i cancel my plans and go to work with the exception of 2 times. 2 times i didn't drop everything and go to work over 5 years! so here's my issue. I've proven myself as a loyal employee. i've become a part of my boss' family. i make good money... don't get me wrong. but i found out that a co-worker that hasn't even been working for us for a year is making $2 more than me an hour! what the hell?! so... i'm kind of upset. i work more than her too! she works at best 2 shifts a week while i'm a full time employee. i don't really know what to do. i don't have a problem with what i make... but i'm hurt that she's making so much more than me. should i say something? and how do i go about it? Ryan (my boss) is like my dad and i don't want him to be hurt or take it the wrong way.

i don't know what to do!

You said it yourself... you feel like you are getting pushed around--well it looks like you are. Firstly why is the person getting paid more then you? Is she doing the same job? Is she older? More experienced? Or just better? And if your boss is like your "father" then why should it be so hard to approach him and talk to him about this issue? Becasue obviously this person (if they are doing the exact same job as you) should not be getting paid more having less exeprience.

Well you know, it sounds to me like the only thing you CAN do to fix this problem is to approach your boss. He's human, and therefore can't read minds. A lot of the time bosses do things like, create scheduales, without knowing whether or not all employees will be happy with that scheduale. the same goes for pay. Really, i dont think it was their intention for you to find OUT that your fellow employee gets paid more than you do anyways, but now tht you know, something should be done about it. Sometimes bosses just dont see it from your perspective, because its not THEIR salary. Anyways, my advice is to talk to them, but dont be angry about it.. just.. talk.

I think that if you know Ryan that well you should be able to approach him. I agree completely with Sarah. Talk to him. He should know if you have a problem or are frustrated with the way things are going. I was once told that nothing will get done unless you take the initiative and attempt to change whatever it is you don't like. Hopefully you can sort this out. And hopefully that way, is talking to your boss (which shouldn't be that hard seeing as he's like your dad).
